FaunaNote Privacy Policy
FaunaNote is a free animal-collecting camera app. It does not require an account, does not contain ads, and does not upload your saved FaunaNote collection to a FaunaNote server.
Camera, Photos, And AI Animal Identification
FaunaNote asks for camera access so you can photograph an animal and create a local collectible species card. When you ask for AI identification, FaunaNote sends the captured photo through a FaunaNote service hosted by Vercel to Google Vertex AI.
The photo is used to decide whether it shows an animal and, if so, return a likely common name, scientific name when reliable, animal group, confidence, and candidate matches. Results can be wrong and are not professional wildlife, veterinary, safety, conservation, or taxonomic advice. FaunaNote does not use submitted photos for advertising or tracking and does not train its own model with them.
FaunaNote does not intentionally create a permanent server-side photo library or write classifier photos to an application database. Vercel processes the HTTPS request and Google processes the image for the AI result. Google documents that published Gemini models cache customer inputs, outputs, and derived data in project-isolated memory for up to 24 hours by default. Google also documents that prompts flagged as suspicious may be stored securely for abuse investigation for up to 90 days unless the applicable Google Cloud account has an approved abuse-logging opt-out. FaunaNote conservatively assumes these periods apply until a disabled-cache or approved opt-out configuration is verified. Google states that this data is not used to train or fine-tune AI models without the customer's permission or instruction.
A request that has already been processed cannot be recalled, and provider security records may remain under the periods above. FaunaNote selects processors subject to contractual and privacy protections appropriate to their role and requires them to provide protection consistent with this policy. If a processor cannot provide equivalent protection, FaunaNote will stop that processing path.

Saved Collection And Optional Catch Details
Saved stickers, species cards, observation context (wild, pet, zoo, or unknown), place labels, notes, and approximate coordinates stay in local app storage on your device. They are not uploaded as collection data.
Location
When you tap Save to Collection, FaunaNote may request foreground location once. If you allow it, FaunaNote rounds latitude and longitude before asking Apple's geocoding service for an approximate place label and before saving the coordinate for the private on-device map. Apple may process that approximate coordinate to provide the label and map. If you deny access or location fails, the animal observation is saved without a place. FaunaNote does not send the place label or coordinate to its own servers. You can remove saved places together with the rest of your local collection from Settings.
Feedback And Feature Requests
In version 1.1.0, FaunaNote prepares a message in your device's email app. You review and choose whether to send it. FaunaNote does not directly transmit the message or optional reply email from the app. If you send the email, your email provider and FaunaNote support process it to respond or improve FaunaNote. Contact FaunaNote support to request deletion of a message you sent.
Retention And Deletion
FaunaNote has no user account or cloud copy of your collection. Privacy & Data lets you clear the saved collection and local sticker files. Unsaved camera and sticker-processing files are deleted on retake, cancellation, completion, or screen exit on a best-effort basis.
Local data remains until you delete it in FaunaNote, uninstall the app, or the operating system removes app storage. Clearing local data does not alter the provider retention periods for already processed classifier requests described above.
Third-Party Services And Content
FaunaNote uses Apple platform services for distribution, maps, approximate place labels, and local Apple Vision subject lift; Vercel and Google Vertex AI for AI animal identification; your email provider only when you choose to send a prepared message; and runtime libraries needed to render the app.
FaunaNote does not include advertising SDKs, analytics SDKs, or a user-account backend in version 1.1.0.
